Progressive Martial Arts (PMA) founder and chief instructor, Bruce Corrigan, is a martial artist with an impressive and extensive background. As the head Sifu (teacher) at PMA, Bruce transforms the study of martial arts by making it easier for beginners to grasp and professionals to expand upon.

 Military

SiFu Bruce is a retired military officer with 22 years of military service as both an enlisted man and a commissioned officer. He holds Honorable Discharges from both the Navy and the Army National Guard. As a Naval Officer, SiFu Bruce achieved professional qualification in both Surface and Aviation Warfare within his designated specialty, and he was also the recipient of a full graduate scholarship, and completed an MBA and MPA while on active duty. SiFu Bruce served onboard five Navy ships, was a member of the Multinational Peacekeeping Force during the Lebanon conflict, and served during Desert Storm. SiFu Bruce also completed military instructor certification training..

 Martial Arts

After achieving his first Black Belt, SiFu Bruce began the lifelong study of Kenpo. Beginning in the early 1980s, Bruce began augmenting his previous Martial Arts studies with intensive training in Kickboxing and the Filipino Martial Arts. In 1987, SiFu Bruce began the study of Jeet Kune Do, and in the early 1990s, he began training in GRACIE system Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Bruce is certified to teach the following: 7th Degree Black Belt Kenpo, 7th Degree Black Belt Karazenpo Go Shinjutsu- Hawaiian Kempo, Senior Instructor Jeet Kune Do and Filipino Kali, Black Belt Judo, 2nd Degree Black Belt Filipino Kuntaw, Black Belt and Instructor GRACIE Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Bruce’s military career allowed him to study aspects of many martial arts disciplines in their county of origin. An advantage, and a luxury, that most martial arts instructors do not have.

In an effort to continually improve and enhance his skill in martial arts, SiFu Corrigan currently continues his studies in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under the direction of Professor Felipe Costa. He has also commenced training in Russian Sambo, and the Juego del Palo method of Spanish stickfighting. In 2003, SiFu Corrigan won the Gold Medal in Gi and No Gi competition for his division at the Florida State Jiu Jitsu Championships, and in 2004, he became a Pan American Gold and Bronze Medalist in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

SiFu Bruce has been featured in several articles in Black Belt Magazine, Inside Kung Fu, and the New York Times Magazine. He has also been the featured martial artist in over 6 specialized self defense DVDs for PFS Video Productions. He has been a sought after trainer for countless military and law enforcement personnel. SiFu is the former east coast direct for Nick Cerio's International Martial Arts Association, Vice President of Progressive Fighting Systems International, and President of the Karazenpo Go Shinjutsu Association. SiFu Bruce was also one of the first American instructors for Gracie Barra Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the United States. 

Education

Bruce has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Master of Public Administration (MPA).

David Corrigan

 

david_headshotThe youngest son of Sifu Bruce Corrigan, David developed a passion for martial arts at a very early age. David grew up watching his father teach class, first in the military town of Virginia Beach and then all over the country as Bruce toured the country to teach seminars and module courses. David has a robust martial arts background that includes experience in Kenpo, Filipino Kali, Jun Fan Kickboxing, Jeet Kune Do, Wrestling and Brazilian Jiujitsu and has commited to upholding the legacy that was started by his father, Sifu Bruce Corrigan.

David possesses an advanced skill set that far exceeds those found in typical young instructors. His exemplary dedication to martial arts training has not gone unnoticed. As a result, David has assisted on educating others through multiple training seminars involving the military, special armed forces personnel and federal and local law enforcement agency members.

 Achievements

David was promoted to Black Belt in Kenpo in 2006 and in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2009. He has dedicated his life to continuing his own journey in the martial arts, while passing down the knowledge that was acquired over many years of working one-on-one with some of the world's most renowned martial artists such as: Bruce Corrigan, Paul Vunak, Pedro Brandao Lacerda, Felipe Costa, Marcelo Brandao Lacerda, Alexander Crispim, Ryron and Rener Gracie.

Although running the martial arts academy is David's primary focus, he is a successful Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competitor and has received several gold, silver and bronze medals. To date, he has competed in more than 100 wrestling matches, as well as several open-Karate tournaments with first place awards in sparring, weapons, forms and self-defense.

David has been featured in Black Belt Magazine and Inside Kung Fu Magazine, and was featured in the Tactical Control and Termination Series by Sifu Paul Vunak and Sifu Bruce Corrigan. Furthermore, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu World Champion Felipe Costa included David in his DVD instructional video series.

 

Education

David holds an  AA and is completing his BA in Organizational Leadership through the TN Board of Regents Online Degree Program.

Nick Corrigan

Literally knee high to a grasshopper, Nick began his martial arts training with his father, Bruce, at a very young age. The 2nd oldest son of Sigung Bruce Corrigan, Nick has increased his martial arts repertoire to incude Kenpo, Filipino Kali, Jeet Kune Do, Kickboxing, Wrestling and Brazilian Jiujitsu.

 

 

 

 

Achievements

His fondness for martial arts as a sport has taken him as competitor to more than 30 Brazilian Jiujitsu matches and 200 wrestling events, one which culminated in winning the 2005 Knoxville and Knox County championship. Nick has received many accolades including a silver medal in the 2004 Pan American Championships and both a silver and bronze medal in the Florida State Championships for his divisions.

Aside from being an accomplished martial arts trainer, Nick is a member of the U.S. Navy Reserves and graduate of the Cooper Institute, the leading premier training facility for advanced level personal training based in the United States.

 

Education

Nick holds a  BA in education, and is an elementary school teacher. He continues to provide martial art instruction and hopes to inspire his young students to pursue the study of the art.
